Bentwood Inn

Bentwood Inn - B&B and self-catering accommodation in the Southern Drakensberg

Description

Nestling just outside the quaint village of Underberg, we offer our guests a tranquil and scenic setting in which to relax and simply do nothing. Alternatively, if you prefer to be more energetic, take a rod and see if you can hook a trout or two in one of the many rivers or dams which dot our area. Then bring your catch home to Bentwood Inn and grill/braai it at your leisure on the facilities provided. We're proud to say that our area offers more fly-fishing opportunities than anywhere else in South Africa.

Attractions

We’re a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from the spectacular Sani Pass, a notorious stretch of South African/Lesotho mountain pass road. Confront it if you’re bold and brave. It’s recommended that you tackle it in a 4X4. A trip up Sani Pass will take you to the highest pub in Southern Africa. If you don’t drive a 4X4, we’ll arrange your Sani Pass adventure for you. Valid passports essential. Bentwood Inn’s proximity to Ukahlamba Drakensberg Park, a hiker’s paradise, makes it an ideal base for day walks and hikes. Savour the pristine air and rivers. Picturesque and challenging golf courses ensure that those who love a drive and a putt won’t be disappointed. Enjoy your golf in the mountains! Sporting activities like tennis, squash and bowls are well-catered for in the Underberg area and visitors enjoy attending local events like our agricultural shows, polo matches, fairs and fetes which attract scores of visitors. Horse riding is a favourite activity for both novice and experienced riders. We can arrange your rides on the sure-footed Basotho horses through the mountains. At nearby Bulwer, paragliders can experience the ultimate high when they take off from the village’s renowned mountain and soar into the blue skies for an eagle’s eye view of our lovely countryside. Go on a guided tour and discover the lost world of the Bushmen who once roamed these ancient mountains. The San Rock Art in the area is legendary. Guests can go mountain biking and in summer, the rivers provide tubing and canoeing for the more adventurous. When the snow arrives, our mountains and fields, trees and hedges are cloaked in a mantle of white. This is when snow-lovers head for the hills to build snowmen, romp in the snow or simply sit back and enjoy the spectacular vistas which winter creates. We live in what is described as a bird-watcher’s paradise. The Underberg area is home to a huge variety of our feathered friends and many of them visit the seed trays and bird baths in the garden at Bentwood Inn
